Quality Content is Not What the Internet Wants
It’s a popularity contest that can be rigged. Quality levels are entirely up to the business or the individual – you can have garbage on your site and still rank well in the search engines if you know the game.
Think about it for a moment. How can any search engine understand quality?
The only thing search engines understand is really quantity – that’s it. Why? Because everything in search engines is done by computer analysis. Why were computers designed? To crunch numbers. Why was the internet created? To exchange information. How can numbers decide quality of information? Why do analytics only come in numbers?
Yes, I know, it’s programming. And it’s algorithms. And it’s this and that. Truthfully, however, search engines, in the end, only crunch numbers and cannot possibly understand quality – it’s beyond the computer’s capability. And, as we all know, numbers can be manipulated through a variety of means. Only humans can decide quality.
Do search engines have people reading what’s on your site? They don’t. So how else could they possibly know whether your site has quality content?
By the numbers – how many people search engines think are going to your site, how many backlinks it has, how many keywords are contained in the content, and a host of other SEO factors – - – how many, how many, how many – not whether it’s quality or not but how well the company or person who owns the site can play the game – in terms of numbers!!! How well can a person learn the “mechanics” – all of them – to “fool” search engines into ranking that site as an “authorative” site.
I’ve found many sites on search engines in the middle and last pages which will never make it to the first page of search engine results. They had excellent content and yet most people using search engines to find such material will never, ever find it unless they too skip the first 3 pages of any search engine result and move into the “obscure” page listings.
Despite the grave and dire warnings, some people can still today get a new site ranked in the top 5 rankings in a matter of days or even hours in some cases. How? They know the game and search engines don’t know the difference between a real number and one that has been manufactured. All the search engines know is that there is a “quantity” of information and a quantity of factors related to that site. Why do you think companies hire SEO companies? Are SEO companies putting in quality content? No. They know how to manipulate the system – a numbers system!
One guy made a lot money – and I mean a lot of money – simply by using this knowledge. One of the buzz phrases on the internet is “content is king”. To most people, that means creating good articles, giving good information supported by facts. Actually, this guy took articles from anywhere on the net, and using software, translated them into another language, re-translated the articles back into English and placed them on a site related to those articles. Much of the language in the articles of course, didn’t make much sense any more because of the literal translations, but site after site was ranked high!! He identified keywords, stuffed a lot of keywords into the site, and a few other “slight of hand” manoeuvres – he even got someone to create software for him to do most of the work automatically – he’s a multi-millionaire now – all because of a knowledge of how to generate “the numbers” – that’s it! If it wasn’t about numbers, he could not have created the software to manipulate the system!
It’s all about getting the numbers and nothing else – you could run a contest, giving away money every day – that would get your site ranked high. Why? Because the numbers of people signing up and linking back to your site to check their status and telling their friends who would also sign up. This would get your site to rank high – not for quality content but popularity “manufactured” by numbers!
Quality becomes a matter of your own business savvy and your own pride in your business.
If you’re starting an internet business, think about this very seriously. Search engines won’t change any time soon.
